Jalal ad-Din Muhammad Rumi, known as Rumi, (1207-1273 CE) was a Persian Islamic theologian and scholar who became famous as a mystical poet. He composed his poetry through the Sufi practice of whirling, or spinning in circles (the whirling dervish) and his verse remains as relevant to the meaning of life today as when first written.
